Hawthorn Healing Arts Center Philosophy
An inspiration for a Healing Practice
Hawthorn Healing Arts Center is very much about the depth of healing potential with the Hawthorn tree. Its ability to address many physiologic heart health issues, as well as its longer-known benefits for the emotional and spiritual aspects of the heart, drew us in as a perfect ally for our business. In this is our deep appreciation and understanding of what can be summed up as ‘mind body medicine’ and how the health of the emotions, the spirit, and the mind are continually informing the body in every way. ~Joshua Phillips, ND
The Hawthorn Tree as Symbol
Hawthorn is one of the earliest blooming trees in the springtime signifying the birth of new possibilities after a long winter. Symbolically, Hawthorn signifies a time of renewed energy and healing as we begin a new adventure of the heart. As we embrace our hearts desire, we will with Hawthorn, we have the strength to follow those dreams.
The common hawthorn tree has been used for thousands of years to heal a “broken” heart. In folk medicine, the flowers, leaves and fruit are used to help reduce blood pressure, anxiety and inflammation. In Chinese medicine, it is used to improve digestion and cardiovascular function. Modern medicine is now using hawthorn to help treat chronic heart failure, elevated cholesterol and coronary heart disease. It is seen as tonic for strengthening heart contractions, thereby decreasing fatigue and shortness of breath, all of which helps to improve endurance.
Hawthorn Healing Arts embodies holistic healthcare to include the practitioners and individual treatments with patients, the retail offering of herbs, vitamins and supplements, as well as classes and workshops offered in our community room. Today we are seeking to expanding our educational offerings to include both our staff experts and other speakers, teachers and professionals to offer educational and inspirational programs to our community. These efforts are geared toward helping individuals live lives that are consistent with health and vitality– lives that are in sync with nature and its rhythms.
