So what is Laughter Yoga? Laughter Yoga uses fun laughter exercises, simple breathing techniques, eye contact and childlike playfulness to elicit laughter, without relying on humor or jokes. It is based on the scientific fact that the body cannot tell the difference between fake and real laughter. Laughter Yoga participants will feel the benefits from the very first session!

Laughter Yoga goes beyond just laughter. With regular practice one can develop a positive mental attitude which will help people to go through challenging times or when it is difficult to laugh physically. This inner spirit of laughter is your ability to stay alive and in positive mental state despite all challenges. Laughter Yoga can improve physical health, release negative thoughts and emotions, and helps to get in touch with the spiritual nature. It also helps to develop an attitude of forgiveness, generosity, compassion, and helpfulness while actively seeking the happiness of others.

Laughter Yoga was developed by an Indian cardiologist, Dr. Madan Kataria, while he was writing an article ‘Laughter – The Best Medicine’ for a health journal. In his research he discovered many modern scientific studies that described the many proven benefits of laughter on the human mind and body. On March 13th 1995 he went to his local public park with four other people and started a ‘laughter club’. They laughed together in the park that day to the amusement of bystanders, but the small group quickly grew to more than 50 participants within a few days. It is fast sweeping the world and today there are thousands of laughter clubs in more than 70 countries.
