Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Advanced Regenerative Treatment for Joints, Tendons, and Ligaments
When joints, tendons, or ligaments suffer from chronic degeneration or acute injury, the body’s own healing response is sometimes inadequate, leading to incomplete repair of the damage. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy takes platelets rich in growth factors from the patient’s own blood and injects them directly into the site of injury to promote healing. PRP injections can reignite and/or accelerate the natural healing process, resulting in tissue proliferation, modulation of chronic inflammation, reduced pain, and improved function. PRP offers an innovative option that is far less invasive than surgery and avoids the degenerative effects of repeated steroid injections.
This procedure is recommended for:
- Moderate to Severe Joint Degeneration
- Osteoarthritis
- Chronic Tendon Injuries
- Partial Tendon/Ligament Tears
- Cartilage Thinning
- Sports and Overuse Injuries
Commonly treated conditions:
- Knee Osteoarthritis
- Partial Rotator Cuff Tears
- Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow
- Achilles Tendinopathy
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Chronic Low Back Pain
- Ligament Sprains

Concentrated Healing From Your Own Blood
The PRP process begins with a simple blood draw, similar to routine lab work. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets and separate out undesirable blood components. This plasma solution is often 5-10 times higher in platelets than normal blood, while being low in potential tissue irritants such as red blood cells. The concentrate is then injected into damaged tissues or degenerated joints with precision techniques such as anatomical-landmark guidance and ultrasound visualization. The growth factors and signaling proteins present in PRP stimulate collagen production, recruit local repair cells, and regulate inflammation to promote the formation of new healthy tissue. The full results of this process takes months but many patients notice improvements within weeks.
Most patients complete a series of one to three treatments spaced several weeks apart, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. Unlike more invasive procedures, PRP injections do not require you to be bed ridden or immobile for weeks on end. Often patients are encouraged to take it easy for a few days after therapy and can return to pretreatment activities about a week after treatment.
Is PRP Right For You?
PRP therapy is an excellent option for patients dealing with chronic joint pain, degenerative arthritis, or tendon and ligament injuries that haven’t improved with rest, physical therapy, or other conservative measures.
PRP is not appropriate for everyone. Patients with active infections, certain blood disorders, or malignancy at the treatment site are typically not candidates for this therapy. A consultation with an expert will help determine whether PRP or another regenerative option is the best fit for you.
