Have you ever thought about how many toxins impact our lives? Exposure to toxins is a fact of modern life. Substances like heavy metals, pesticides, chemicals from household materials and cleaning products are ingested, inhaled or absorbed into our bodies throughout our lifetimes. Some of these substances are carcinogens, meaning they are known to cause cancer in high enough concentrations; others disrupt the optimal functioning of the body. Read this article to learn how to detox.

Toxin Facts – Did you know?

  • Pesticide residues are detectable in 50% – 95% of the food consumed in the U.S. Pesticides are damaging to the endocrine and glandular systems. The U.S. uses 30x more synthetic pesticides today than in 1945.
  • “Silver” dental fillings contain mercury (a cause of Parkinson’s disease and many other neurological disorders) that leaches out and is absorbed by the surrounding tissue and lungs.
  • The average carpet outgases more than 12 chemicals (such as benzene, a known cause of leukemia) all of which can cause disease.
  • Studies show that most of us have between 400 and 800 chemical residues stored in our cells. EPA studies reveal that 100% of people tested have dioxins, PCBs, dichlorobenzene, and xylene in their fat cells, and carcinogenic benzene (89%) and percholoethlylene (93%) in their exhaled breath. These are just small examples of an epidemic problem.

Some signs you may have toxicity in your body….

  • fatigue
  • indigestion
  • constipation
  • low energy
  • trouble sleeping
  • inability to concentrate
  • poor coordination
  • intestinal complaints
  • deficient immune function
  • more than 20lbs overweight

It is critical for you to remove all toxic material from your body. If toxins accumulate in your body they will cause significant disruption of your overall health.

In our industrialized world, we produce more and more potentially toxic compounds that find their way into the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. The body must rid itself of these dangerous substances by transforming and then excreting them through the lungs, skin, kidneys, and bowels. Unfortunately, not all of them get excreted efficiently—some are circulated back into the bloodstream and others are stored in various body tissues such as fat tissue. This is in part due to the increasing levels of toxins we are exposed to, and may be exacerbated by a lack of nutrients needed to fuel the detoxification process. Over the years toxins can build up in fat, joints, the brain, and various other tissues, potentially leading to a variety of health issues.

How to Detox – Solution

Here at the Hawthorn Healing Arts Center, we take detoxification seriously. Our bodies cannot effectively eliminate the amount of toxins to which we are exposed every day. Without excretion, those toxic substances continue to build up in the body—and over time, the uncomfortable symptoms listed above can give way to even more significant problems, including neurological disorders and cancer.

Fortunately, we can support the body in ridding itself of harmful chemicals and other substances.

Research has substantiated that an individual’s ability to detoxify substances to which they are exposed varies tremendously, and the body’s capacity to detoxify these substances is of critical importance to overall health.

The body’s capacity to carry out this complex process of detoxification has to do in large measure with nutrition. Certain foods can burden the detoxification machinery of your body, while certain foods and nutrients can help it. Specific nutrients—vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients—may be extremely important in influencing how well your body detoxifies. We use medical foods in conjunction with a specially designed dietary plan. Each of these products is made up of combinations of select nutrients in amounts that nutritionally support metabolic cleansing and detoxification processes within your body. Depending on each individuals detoxification ability and health status, we will work with you to determine which products will best meet your particular needs.

Everyone can benefit from a detoxification process one to two times a year. Here at Hawthorn Healing Arts Center we conduct a Physician supervised Detox/Cleanse in the Spring and Fall. Our Spring Cleanse starts this week. Sign up now to ensure your place. More information can be found on our website here.
