Dr. Mary Ellen Coulter is a Family Practice Physician who takes a holistic, individualized approach to health care. With years of experience integrating conventional medicine with complementary therapies, she works with patients to understand the larger picture of their health rather than focusing solely on a single symptom or diagnosis.
Dr. Coulter recognizes that not every patient fits neatly into a standard medical model. Her approach begins with listening carefully to each person’s concerns, history and goals, followed by diagnostic testing and treatment recommendations tailored to the individual. Her areas of particular interest include hormone health, perimenopause and menopause, thyroid and adrenal concerns, nutrition, weight management, microbiome balance and preventive health.
Women’s health and bio-identical hormone therapy are important components of Dr. Coulter’s practice. She works with women navigating the changes that can accompany perimenopause and menopause, as well as patients experiencing concerns such as fatigue, sleep difficulties, weight changes and hormonal imbalance. Her goal is to look beyond isolated symptoms and consider the underlying factors that may be contributing to how a patient feels.
Dr. Coulter’s holistic philosophy also incorporates nutrition, exercise, nutritional supplements, homeopathy and mind-body approaches when appropriate. She holds national certification in classical homeopathy (CCH) through Hahnemann College and brings this additional perspective to her work as a medical physician. She believes that complementary approaches can offer valuable options for patients seeking a more individualized path to wellness.
Her medical education includes a degree from Albany Medical College, followed by residency training in Family Medicine at Bowman Gray School of Medicine and Internal Medicine at George Washington University. She has also completed additional training in homeopathy and Global Health through Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).
At the heart of Dr. Coulter’s practice is the belief that the doctor-patient relationship should be a partnership. By combining her experience as a physician with a broad range of complementary approaches, she strives to help patients become active participants in their own health and make informed decisions about their care.
Dr. Coulter provides care for the entire family, with particular interests in women’s health, hormone balance and holistic preventive care.
